Snacks and sweets

Sweets and snacks are popular and need not be totally avoided.

Do's
Cut down how often you or your child has food or drink containing sugar.
If you or your child eats sweets then eat them all at once – preferably at the end of a meal.
Cut down between-meal sugar intakes by keeping sugar-containing foods and drinks to mealtimes, or for an agreed time each week.
Between meals, try alternatives such as fruits, crisp vegetables, bread or water
Ask the doctor or pharmacist for sugar free medicines.

Don'ts
Use sweets as a reward or to cheer up an unhappy child.
Forbid sweets as it can make them even more attractive to children.
