We recommend a toothpaste with a pleasant taste and medium abrasiveness that has anti-plaque agents that have been scientifically proven to be effective. In accordance with our Fluoride policy we recommend and sell Weleda non-fluoride toothpaste at reduced cost
Fluoride has many advantages;
Fluoride strengthens teeth while they are developing in the jaws
Fluoride stops germs (plaque) turning sugar to acid
Fluoride strengthens teeth that have been subject to an "acid-attack"
Fluoride helps to kill germs (plaque) that cause decay
But while teeth are developing flouride has some disadvantages;
Too much fluoride can stain and discolour developing teeth
Too much fluoride is usually from small children eating toothpaste
The crowns of the teeth are nearly all formed by age 7 years
We therefore recommend the following treatment regime for Lymm, Cheshire where there is no natural or added fluoride in water supply.
Child age 0 - 3

Do not use salt with fluoride added.
Do not use topically applied fluoride varnishes or mouthrinses

Encourage controlled use of fluoride drops especially if evidence of decay or if medical or handicapping condition (provided not using fluoridated toothpaste).
Child age 3 - 7
